Capture the Newbies - Posted by Psycho Goldfish

Every once in a while I will stroll into the room to find my oldest son playing web games for kids. The other day he was playing this nickelodeon game that actually looked kind of fun.

Capture the Newbies is basically a kid-friendly FPS that plays just like the old Wolfenstein 3D game (which is not available in Germany for some silly reason) from my own childhood. The basic premise is that Invader Zim’s world has been overrun by unwanted pests, including other Nick characters who act as bosses.

The game starts out VERY easy (it IS a kid’s game after all), but once you get by the first boss fight the challenge starts to pick up. In the first level you get a net shooter with 10 re-usable nets. You need to ensnare all the critters in your path then gather them up to open doors, get bonuses and most importantly, get your nets back. Later levels have you looking for keys and capturing other Nicktoons characters such as Jimmy Neutron, Kaput & Zosky and a few others.

Considering the game is developed by and for nick, the art and sound are obviously both fantastic for a web game. But unlike a lot of tv-based game, this is way fun, especially for overgrown kids like me. You should definitely give it a play.
