I want to thank Dan McNeely for providing the following response to our article, ‘The Life and Death of LordBling….‘. While I continue to have my own reservations and opinions about what happened last night, I do respect the things Dan has done and think his comments not only deserve to be published, but should get their own post so they aren’t lost in the clutter. And so… Everyone seems to have an opinion about what happened. The truth of the matter was ‘LordBling’ was created to support Artist, Writers and Newgrounds. The idea was to create a site that added a fresh face to parody and animation. (Hence the ‘King of Parody’ slogan) I wanted to encourage writers and animators to come up with their own ‘Bling’ creation, (See ‘Lord of the Bling’ in the Newgrounds portal) This ‘Bling’ concept could be applied to anything and everying. (Saving Private Bling, Bling Wars, B is for Bling-detta, etc) I was then going to offer animators money to create these series for the site. Any animation created for the site would be submitted to Newgrounds as the first place to show what the animator had created. In return, I would pay them for the work and help distribute their work around the web. I saw it as a ‘win-win’ situation. When designing the site, I had a graphic artist custom design everything so that no one would say I copied anything. The ‘Lord Bling’ character was suppose to have a ‘young, kingly’ look to him, and for reference I provided my graphic artist a link to the guy from the Fall Out series. Not Pico Related @ All. The template was choosen from ‘TemplateMonster.com‘ and the layout was based around sites like CrazyMonkeyGames, Newgrounds, FlashPortal, Hallpass, ArmorGames, etc. It was a combination of things I liked from all of these properties. (Again it was never intended to emulate, steal, or undermine what Newgrounds has done or created) After going into the beta test period, it was quickly noted by a few as a rip off of Newgrounds, which was quite upsetting to me because of the level of respect I have for Tom Fulp and the support he has given to me over the years. I then decided to pull down the site, and have the graphic artist remove the logos since people thought it was copy right infringement. The current content on the site was from places that distribute their work freely (CrazyMonkeygames, ArmorGames, etc) and the few animations listed on the site were from talented artist that I had already worked with, and I had them listed as the author in the ‘Comments’ section of the site. In no way was it meant to emulate Newgrounds. It’s purpose was to support animators and writers and help them get paid for the hard work that they submit freely everyday to Newgrounds. I’m still hoping for an explaination as to why so much effort went into hiding the existence of the site, but that’s another story for another day… Bookmark this page on Digg, Kinja, FURL, Redit & other sites 8 ResponsesLeave a Comment

Wow, He went into extensive detail about.. well nothing. Infact. it looks like he took this opportunity to plug the fuckin site!.
its one hell of a coincidence that the layout, banner, colors, designs, all happened to look exactly like Newgrounds. Wow Gee what are the odds? of that? “Bling” and “Blame”? yeah, I guess when he threw darts on his Idea board, they just kept hitting the NG portion of the board . considering the work that went to spreading this putride site all over the net with digg feeds and other lame site feeds I sincerely doubt this site was in beta stage. I also like how he mentions the creators names were in the comments. but they werent credited in the authors section.. he was… and since they spidered the authors comments from NG it was a 50/50 chance if your name was on your work, since it would have to be up to the author to remember to place it there. also for someone who supposedly loves NG for their support. There was not one link for newgrounds.. not one.
Dan is so full of shit I can smell it from here.

Well it’s good to hear this McNeely’s explanation. But it still puzzles me why he tried to hide the site. He could’ve avoided nearly all of this e-drama if he simply choose a different layout.
In the end of the day, he should of realised the striking resemblance of the two sites would’ve created contreversy.

So… what happened to all the stolen stuff? Was that like a filler made illegal?

thats because McNeely is a money man and not the talent. He saw how newgrounds worked and said.. “There I want that.. do that” Its no suprize the the original layout of AG was so similair to game layouts like miniclip..
Im just shocked how quickly people forget.

Yeah it’s still hard to say what his intentions were definately, and this response barely helps. And he says things like “and help them get paid for the hard work that they submit freely everyday to Newgrounds.” This sounds more like how he gets to sleep than the real reason. I think Mindchamber hit it on the nose, “There I want that.. do that.” Dan is definately a money man and money was indesputably the point of the site.

Gotta say - feeling sour about the whole affair. I never saw the site itself (other than the Google cached version, which only seems to show the front page and the pics shown here).
Anyway, I just wanted to chime in to say that you can’t chide a person too much for having a layout similar to others. I mean there’s only so many logical layouts…
On this very site, we have small icons of games in 3 columns… exactly like in JayIsGames. I don’t know if this page is made from a template or whatever, but at a glance, it certainly seems fairly interchangeable with many others.
When presenting a shitload of games, I honestly don’t think there’s any way remaining to do it without ripping off one site or another whilst remaining user-friendly.
Of course, the fact that he created that site then hid it away, suggests something insidious is going on. What does he have to hide?

Yeah this site uses a generic template that is a lot like jayisgames. The big differences are jay and I both provide our own, unique content… jay and I had no working relationship were either of us supported the other… and jay and I have actually discussed our site’s similarities and are now affiliate sites.
It’s all about how you handle your business

Hey, I was there for the “event” and I have to say that Mindchamber is correct in everyway. I saw no resemblence to CMG’s site or any others. The layout was horridly similiar to Newgrounds and for the most part, all the content was “borrowed”. Oh, Bezman, while I agree with you that there alot of similiar sites, the content was the same.
