Solarsaurs - Posted by _altr_

Solarsarus by The Super Flash Bros is an oddly nifty dinosaur flinger bounce off planets get high scores and blow up said dinosaurs, um, game.

While the art is as good as you would expect from them I do wish more was added, as in effects and maybe even having the dinos bite chunks out of the planets or something. While it is all well done, looks wise it is missing a little zazz .

Good loop and who knew planets colliding with themselves and dinosaurs sounded just like playing croquet.

An easy game to play and even easier to get hook on, use your mouse to left click, drag and release the dinosaur into the planets and watch them all bounce around. Myself, I find it good to bounce the dinos off each other, getting lucky and have them fall back below the line, then you get to use them again. While not a terribly in depth and psychological thriller it is an awesome waste of time complete with hi scores and exploding dinosaurs. It really can not get much better unless there is a sequel .

Five ’til - Posted by _altr_

Five ’til by JMTB02 is a nice addition to the “4 sec games” genre but with an actual plot and a bit more than 4 seconds to know what the hell is going on. Around 30 seconds per level, which is nice for old and bitter people like me.
Nice action and decent art. While it could be spruced up art wise it in no way detracts from the great game play. Some better backgrounds and better explosions would flesh it out more, but you’re going so fast trying to get crap done you hardly notice it, unless some dumb reviewer mentions it then you can’t help but notice.

Sound effects and audio are well played except after I beat the game and listened to the end music for 10 minutes before I closed the window. Other than me zoning out, nothing annoying with what you hear.

ANGRY FIST SHAKING MOMENTS: for some parts where you have to use the mouse I REALLY wish I could see what part of the icon that got changed I’m actually using. The wire cutting took me several tries because it’s different than the glass cutting. Not sure if that’s just a minor bug but yeah, on the wire cutting it should show where your actual arrow cursor is for the hit area, where you click.

Other then that, game play was freaking great. Combining several different aspects of game play I loved helped. I like this approach better then the 4 sec games (which I won’t link cause I don’t want to remember that much to beat a game) as you get some time to learn the controls. I might just be old and bitter though. I also like how if/when you lose a level you start back with the same amount of time remaining when you started that part. Great game to play and get better at, mostly for me since I want to get better then a -C, haha.

Quadradius - Posted by Psycho Goldfish

One of the great things about web-games is they allow you to waste time between classes, at the office, your day off…etc. But why should you be the only one who gets to enjoy this glorious act of procrastination?

Multiplayer web-games have always had a certain appeal, because they aren’t as hardcore as their console and pc counterparts, but you can only play the same chess, card, and billiards games so long before you crave something new.

Well… it’s time to grab a buddy, or co-worker, and get ready to waste hours (that could be used for something productive); Quadradius is here, and it’s taking names!

This is one of those games that you really can’t judge just by looking at it. Sure the art is really nice, considering this is loosely based on checkers/chess type gameplay, but there’s so much more to it then what you see.

And who cares if there’s no music, that’s why you have Winamp and iTunes. The sound effects are all present, and the lack of background noise makes it easier to hear the guy in the next cubicle cursing as you school him in the strategic arts.

The gameplay… well, it’s easy. You take turns moving your pieces, horizontally or vertically, one square at a time. If you jump on one of the other player’s pieces, you destroy it. And you keep going until only one player has pieces left.

Even if that was all you did in this game, it would be fun. But no… you can also collect powerups that not only give you destructive powers, they allow you to manipulate the game-board itself! This is where it gets challenging.
The infinite strategic options you are given based on what powerups you collect make this game unique every single time you play. You won’t find people using the same ‘cheap’ solution over and over, and sometimes when you think you are winning, all it takes is one crazy power to turn the tide.

The interface is a little ‘techie’ and might be hard to figure out at first, but once you get past that (which shouldn’t take long), the only concern you will have is what powerups your opponent is harboring.

The only problem I had was finding someone to play against. Seems like a lot of people just sit in the lobby and idle and ignore you when you click on their name to play. Make sure to drag someone with you when you want to play it.

It’s fun…. REALLY fun… perhaps one of the best multiplayer web-games around today.
